The Spirit of July 15 Swept Through Ümraniye Like an Avalanche: Officials and Citizens Marched Shoulder to Shoulder for Democracy!
On the anniversary of the treacherous July 15 coup attempt, the spirit of national unity and solidarity took to the streets in Ümraniye, just as it did across Turkey. As part of the July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day commemoration events organized by the Ümraniye District Governor’s Office, a massive public march was held. District officials and thousands of Ümraniye residents participated in the march as one.
On the anniversary of the epic resistance in which our beloved nation defended its will, democracy, and independence at the cost of their lives, thousands of citizens—from seven to seventy—filled the squares waving Turkish flags, standing as one voice and one heart against the treacherous coup attempt.
The Same Faith and Determination as on the First Day in Ümraniye’s Squares
The commemoration program, held throughout Ümraniye and serving as a powerful reaffirmation of loyalty to the national will, was marked by great enthusiasm and an outpouring of emotion. During the mass public march;
-
Ümraniye District Governor Mr. Yüksel Çelik,
-
Ümraniye Mayor Mr. İsmet Yıldırım,
-
Mehmet Özdil, President of the International Tradesmen’s Union (UEB) and President of the Ümraniye Tradesmen’s Chamber,
-
district officials, representatives of civil society organizations, veterans, and thousands of Ümraniye residents took part.
The crowd filling the squares sent a clear message of unity and solidarity against the treacherous forces threatening Turkey’s independence.
Mehmet Özdil: “We Did Not Leave the Squares Empty, and We Never Will!”
Following the public march and commemoration program, Mehmet Özdil, General President of UEB and President of the Ümraniye Chamber of Tradesmen and Artisans, emphasized the spirit of national unity in his commemorative message, stating the following resolute words:
"July 15 is the name of an epic resistance in which our beloved nation defended its will, democracy, and independence at the cost of its own lives.
As part of the July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day program organized by the Ümraniye District Governor’s Office, we joined the public march shoulder to shoulder with our District Governor Mr. Yüksel Çelik, our Mayor Mr. İsmet Yıldırım, and our valued fellow citizens.
Despite the years that have passed, we are back in the squares with the same faith, determination, and spirit of unity as on that first day. Because these squares are the most sacred trust of the nation’s will, our independence, and our democracy. I commemorate the martyrs of July 15, who stood firm against traitors to the homeland, with mercy and gratitude, and I express my deepest thanks to our heroic veterans who risked their lives. We have not forgotten, and we will not let others forget. We have not left the squares empty, and we never will."
